PERSONAL: Melvin Leon Stottlemyre Jr....resides in Lewiston, ID, with his wife, Lisa…has 3 children: Maleigha, Colton and Blaise...graduated from Davis High School in Yakima, WA, in 1982...drafted by Seattle following his senior year of high school, but did not sign...attended Univ. of Nevada-Las Vegas...was the Astros 1st round selection in the 1985 January Draft...with his father, Mel owns Stotts Fishing Adventures on the Clearwater River near Lewiston, ID...father, Mel Sr., was a 5-time AL All-Star (1965-66, '68-70) and went 164-139 with a 2.97 ERA over 11 Major League seasons with the Yankees…achieved 20 wins on 3 occasions (1965, '68-69)…served as pitching coach for the Yankees from 1996-2005 and the Mariners in, Todd, was 138-121 with a 4.28 ERA in 15 Major League seasons with the Blue Jays (1988-94), A's (1995), Cardinals (1996-98), Rangers (1998) and D-backs (1999-2002).

COACHING CAREER: Is in his second season as the Mariners Pitching Coach, his fourth season as a big league pitching coach, and his sixth season as a MLB coach, overall…Mariners posted a 4.00 ERA in 2016 despite using single-season club record for pitchers used (32); included 13 different starters...spent 2002-15 in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, most recently as its bullpen coach (2014-15) following stints as its minor league pitching coordinator (2011-13), Major League pitching coach (2009-10), minor league pitching coordinator (2007-09), and minor league pitching coach with affiliates in Missoula (2005-06), El Paso (2004), Lancaster (2003) and Yakima (2002)...began his coaching career as the pitching coach with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (his alma mater) in 2001.

PLAYING CAREER: Pitched in six minor league seasons in the Houston (1985-1987) and Kansas City (1987-1990) organizations, combining to go 25-24 with a 3.50 ERA (162 ER, 416.2 IP) with 24 saves in 122 appearances including 57 starts...pitched briefly in Majors with Kansas City, going 0-1 with a 4.88 ERA (17 ER, 31.1 IP) in 13 games, including 2 starts, in 1990...was originally selected by Houston in first round of 1985 January Draft...was previously drafted by Seattle in 28th round of 1982 June Draft, but did not sign.
