Cano's early exit vs. Tigers a precaution

DETROIT -- Seattle slugger Robinson Cano exited Friday night's 7-2 win in the series opener against the Tigers as a precaution with a sore right foot.

With the Mariners ahead by five runs in the eighth, manager Lloyd McClendon opted to remove his star from the game in order to receive treatment. Cano fouled a pitch off his foot in the seventh inning.

"He should be OK [Saturday]," McClendon said. "I just didn't want to take a chance. Hopefully, it doesn't swell."

Brad Miller subbed in for Cano as a defensive replacement. He tripled and then scored in the ninth inning.
