Mariners win challenge to erase runner at 1B

Replay overturns safe call, crediting Leone with pickoff of De Aza

Mariners win challenge to erase runner at 1B

SEATTLE -- In the sixth inning Sunday, Mariners reliever Dominic Leone picked off the White Sox Alejandro De Aza after a safe call was overturned using Major League Baseball's instant-replay policy.

With the Mariners holding a 3-0 lead and De Aza at first base on a leadoff single, Leone turned and threw while De Aza dove back to the bag.

After the initial safe ruling, Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon challenged the call, and a brief replay review revealed that De Aza didn't reach the bag before being tagged out by first baseman Logan Morrison.

The Mariners went on to win, 4-2.
