Outfielders Austin Jackson and Chris Denorfia Report to Mariners

BALTIMORE, MD. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves:

  • Austin Jackson, OF, has reported to the Mariners
  • Chris Denorfia, OF, has reported to the Mariners
  • James Jones, OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma
  • Stefen Romero, OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma

Jackson (#16) and Denorfia (#28) were acquired at the Trade Deadline yesterday from the Tigers and Padres respectively and are in the starting lineup for the first game of a three-game set against Baltimore at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Jackson, 27, was hitting .273 (102x374) with 52 runs, 25 doubles, 5 triples, 4 home runs and 33 RBI in 100 games with the Tigers. Against left-handed pitching this season he is hitting .330 (33x100) with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 7 RBI, a .400 on-base percentage and an .840 OPS. Over his last 48 games since June 5 is hitting .314 (58x185) and in July hit .349 (38x109) with 18 runs, 10 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, 11 RBI and an .894 OPS in 26 games.

Denorfia, 34, was hitting .242 (60x248) with 25 runs, 10 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run and 16 RBI in 89 games with San Diego. In his career against left-handed pitchers, he is hitting .301 (231x768) with 45 doubles, 5 triples, 18 home runs, 83 RBI and an .809 OPS. He has appeared in all three outfield positions this season (RF-55, LF-26, CF-14) and in his career he has appeared in over 150 games at each position (RF-331, LF-241, CF-164).

Jones, 25, hit .258 (75x291) with 38 runs, 8 doubles, 4 triples, 8 RBI with 20 stolen bases in 21 attempts in 79 games over two stints with the Mariners this season. His 20 stolen bases this season rank 7th in the American League and 2nd since May 5th. In 21 games with the Rainiers he has hit .321 (26x81) with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 8 RBI and 5 stolen bases.

Romero, 25, hit .200 (4x20) in his latest nine-game stint with Seattle, his second of the season. He has appeared in 60 games with the Mariners this season, hitting .196 (33x168) with 19 runs, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 11 RBI. In 11 games with AAA Tacoma, all starts in right field, he has hit .283 (13x46) with 2 doubles, 3 home runs and 9 RBI.
