SEATTLE -- The Mariners got an out call at first base overturned using Major League Baseball's instant replay system in the third inning of their game against the Twins on Tuesday.

With two outs and Seattle right fielder Michael Saunders on first base, center fielder James Jones hit a ball sharply back up the middle. Charging second baseman Brian Dozier fielded the ball and fired to first as Jones hustled down the line.

Jones appeared to beat the throw, but first-base umpire Gabe Morales ruled out with an emphatic first pump. After Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon came out of the dugout and challenged the call, the safe ruling was overturned and Jones went back to first base while Saunders remained at second.

The Mariners failed to take advantage of the opportunity, however, as the next batter, Robinson Cano, lined out the end the inning.
