The Mariners have agreed to terms with teenage outfielder Brayan Hernandez, ranked No. 8 on MLB.com's Top 30 International Prospects list, for $1.85 million on Wednesday, according to an industry source.

Seattle also inked Dominican catcher Ismerlin Mota to a $295,000 deal.

The club did not confirm the agreements.

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team is allotted a $700,000 base and a bonus pool based on the team's record in 2013 for the international signing period, which started on Wednesday. Seattle's bonus pool total for this year's signing period is $3,440,700.

Hernandez, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 170 pounds, is listed as a center fielder, but he could end up in right field. He's known as a contact hitter with a balanced setup at the plate and is projected to show more power in the future if he continues to gain weight and maintain his athleticism.

Tall and lean, Hernandez has been praised for his hand-eye coordination and speed on defense in the outfield, and he projects to be a plus runner. From Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, Hernandez is trained by Henderson Martinez.
