The first 30,000 fans through the gates of Safeco Field on Thursday, June 12, will receive a Macklemore bobblehead. The Grammy Award-winning artist will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Seattle Mariners vs. New York Yankees game (7:10pm start).
Gates to Safeco Field will open at 5:10pm. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to give themselves plenty of time to pass through metal detectors at all ballpark entrances.
Macklemore and Felix Hernandez teamed up for the Change the Game anti-bullying campaign that includes public service announcements for TV and radio, posters, classroom exercises for middle schools and a pledge that students could sign to take a stand with Macklemore, Felix and the Seattle Mariners to help stop bullying and to "be kind, support others and change the game."
Students who signed the pledge were entered into a contest to meet Macklemore and Felix prior to Thursday's Mariners game. Ten students were chosen at random and they are scheduled to meet the two superstars from music and sports before the Mariners take on the Yankees.
Four classrooms in Western Washington were chosen at random to receive Macklemore bobbleheads for each student after completing Change the Game classroom activities such as the "Be Great to Each Other" wall, which encourages students to write down positive actions of their own or their peers and display them on a wall in their classroom, and the "Kindness Wins Scoreboard," which is patterned after a baseball scoreboard with "Kind Acts" and "Kind Words" as the two teams.
Partnering with the Mariners on the Change the Game anti-bullying campaign are the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center; Committee for Children; U.S. Department of Justice, United States Attorney's Office, Western District of Washington, and DOJ's Community Relations Service; and Copacino+Fujikado.
