Mariners add seven to scouting staff

SEATTLE -- The Mariners shored up their amateur scouting staff Monday, announcing seven additions for various positions around the country.

Butch Baccala was named West Coast Supervisor, John Ramey will handle Southern California, Joe Ross will take care of the Northwest, which includes Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Alaska, and Tony Russo will be in charge of the Midwest (Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota).

In addition, Jess Kapellusch will take the Southwest territory, which includes North Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska, Mike Moriarty will head up the Atlantic region, handling Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and Delware, and Devitt Moore will handle the duties for the Gulf Coast (Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama).

All staff members will report to the club's director of amateur scouting, Tom McNamara.
