Legendary Mariners designated hitter Edgar Martinez will meet fans at Edgar's Cantina at Safeco Field on Saturday, September 28. He will be serving as a guest bartender in the Cantina to raise money for The Martinez Foundation, a non-profit founded by Edgar and Holli Martinez to provide support for highly-qualified teachers of color throughout their profession.
Edgar will be at the Cantina from 12:30-2:00 p.m. meeting fans and serving drinks. (Game time is 1:10pm.) Fans are encouraged to leave tips and make donations in support of the Foundation, which helps students of color become teachers through graduate level scholarships, professional development and mentoring.
Edgar's Cantina is located behind the left field wall at Safeco Field. It features a South-of-the-Border menu and serves cocktails made with Zac, an artisanal mezcal imported to the U.S. by Martinez and his business partner Gene Juarez. Edgar's Cantina is open to all fans 21 and up.
Founded in 2008, The Martinez Foundation's mission is to prepare and support diverse and highly-qualified teachers who will raise expectations, accelerate learning and close the achievement gap by granting scholarships and promoting innovative social justice curriculum.
The Foundation partners with eight universities and Martinez Fellows are currently working in 14 school districts throughout the state. The Martinez Foundation is Washington's only organization committed to providing scholarships, as well as support programs, to teachers of color in under-represented public schools.
