MINNEAPOLIS -- Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki was the leadoff hitter for both teams in a five-inning Rookie League intrasquad game on Thursday afternoon in Peoria, Ariz.
He went 7-for-10 with two triples and one double.
It was the busiest day the eight-time All-Star has had since being placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 1 because of a bleeding ulcer. He is eligible to come off the DL on Wednesday, prior to the Mariners' 7:10 p.m. PT game against the Angels at Safeco Field.
"He went home looking and feeling great," said Ken Barron, Ichiro's interpreter, in an email. Ichiro did not play defense.
Ichiro is expected to play at least one more game in Arizona before he and the organization decide whether he will rejoin the team this weekend in Oakland or on Monday in Seattle during a workout at Safeco Field.
The Mariners play their home opener at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday against the Angels.
