SEATTLE -- Baseball from a women's point of view takes center stage at Safeco Field on Tuesday prior to the Mariners' game against the Twins. That's when Seattle-based authors Jackie Koney and Deidre Silva, the Savvy Girls of Summer, host a pregame reception for female fans and children 14 and younger at the Ellis Pavilion. Koney and Silva, the original Savvy Girls, are Seattle authors who have co-authored a new book titled: "It Takes More Than Balls: The Savvy Girls' Guide to Understanding and Enjoying Baseball." The book is aimed at women baseball fans of all levels and attempts to demystify the history, rules, language, stats and baseball strategy.
The event begins at 5:10 p.m. PT, and activities include social networking and a panel discussion with women from the world of sports. There will be light refreshments served, a drawing for prizes and Koney and Silva will sign copies of their book. Tickets for the game and the pregame event are $11 for View Reserved seats (regularly $20) and $25 for Field Level seats (regularly $40). Tickets are only available online here. Deadline to purchase tickets for the game and pregame reception is 9 a.m. Monday. Koney and Silva have been on a summer-long promotional tour of ballparks all across the country. They've also hosted Savvy Girls events at Comerica Park, Shea Stadium and Nationals Park in Washington. Their book, available from Skyhorse Publishing, is currently in bookstores.
