MINNEAPOLIS -- The Mariners placed right-handed starter Carlos Silva on the 15-day disabled list following Saturday afternoon's game against the Twins, creating an opening on the 25-man roster for left-hander Ryan Feierabend, who will start Sunday's series finale. Silva made his 24th start of the season in Friday night's series opener against his former team and was rocked for nine hits and nine earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. He absorbed his 14th loss of the season. "After the game, he indicated that when he threw his last bullpen session, he felt something in his [right] elbow," manager Jim Riggleman said after Seattle's 7-6 loss to Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. "He hadn't said anything to anybody then, but after [Friday night's] game, he said it was sore."
The Mariners don't believe it's anything serious, but are taking the safe route. "If we were in a different part of the season and the standings, he could pitch through this," Riggleman said. "But at this point, we're going to take this opportunity to give him four or five days, give him a couple of bullpen sessions and have him come back in September."
