Sunday, March 23 Mariners at the plate: Brad Wilkerson hit his first homer of the spring, a two-run opposite-field drive to left in the sixth inning against reliever Miguel Gonzalez. Raul Ibanez singled twice and doubled, and Kenji Johjima had two singles. Angels at the plate: Juan Rivera crushed his first homer of the spring, a three-run blast. Gary Matthews Jr. launched a solo homer to right in the first, his second of the spring, and added a two-run single. Jeff Mathis doubled and singled twice, while Casey Kotchman doubled, singled and lined out.
Up next for Mariners: Left-hander Jarrod Washburn, who has been the most consistent of the five starters, makes his fifth Cactus League start, facing the White Sox at Peoria Stadium. The veteran threw 87 pitches in his previous start but that only took him into the fourth inning. He figures to reach the 100-pitch plateau against the White Sox and preferably go at least six innings. Right-hander Sean Green and left-hander Arthur Rhodes also are slated to pitch for Seattle.
