ARLINGTON -- With everyday shortstop Brendan Ryan on the disabled list, Jack Wilson was in Monday's lineup batting second and playing shortstop. Mariners manager Eric Wedge said that Wilson would be the primary backup for the team in Ryan's absence. "Play Jack mostly, and [Luis Rodriguez] can play some shortstop for us," Wedge said. "[Kyle] Seagar can play a little bit of shortstop, but Jack will get the majority."
Rodriguez, who was called up to replace Ryan on the roster Monday, has started 10 games for the Mariners at shortstop this season and will also get a look. The most unlikely candidate is Seager. The rookie has started the past two games for the Mariners at third base and has not played shortstop in the Major Leagues. "He played there a little bit in Triple-A," Wedge said. "Probably not as much now that we've got Louie in here."
