The Mariners made a pair of roster moves Thursday, optioning outfielder Greg Halman to Triple-A Tacoma and releasing designated hitter Jack Cust.
A corresponding roster move for Halman, who hit .230 in 30 games and made starts at all three outfield positions for the Mariners, will be made prior to Friday's game against the Angels.
Cust was designated for assignment on July 29 to make room for Erik Bedard's return from the disabled list. He hit .213 in 67 games for the Mariners this season.
Seattle currently has 39 players on the 40-man roster.
