It's been a while since Jarrod Washburn has beaten the Red Sox -- more than three years, to be exact.
Washburn is 3-3 with a 4.66 ERA in his career against the Red Sox, and has not recorded a win against them since July 15, 2004, and averages less than six innings per game against them. He gets another chance Saturday when the Mariners host the Red Sox in the second game of a three-game series at Safeco Field.
Washburn has been very solid for Seattle thus far this season, however, as he is second on the team with 11 quality starts, and has pitched at least six innings in 15 of his 21 starts this year. He has not earned a win since July 4, when he held the Royals scoreless through eight innings.
The 32-year-old is 0-1 in his last four starts, including three consecutive no-decisions, although he won three straight decisions from June 23 through July 4.
