Feierabend to make 2007 debut

Feierabend to make 2007 debut

When left-hander Ryan Feierabend throws his first pitch in Tuesday's middle game of the three-game series, he'll become the seventh pitcher this season to start at least one game for the Mariners.

He comes to the Seattle rotation fresh from Triple-A Tacoma, where he posted a 2-2 record and 3.86 ERA in 10 starts.

The fact he surrendered three or fewer runs in each of those starts convinced club officials that he should be the one to replace injured Horacio Ramirez (shoulder tightness) in the rotation.

The Mariners' third-round pick in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft has a 30-31 career Minor League record with a 3.87 ERA.

Feierabend was one of 13 players to make his big-league debut last season.

The Mariners are hoping the young lefty can have a road outing similar to all of Ramirez's starts at home, where he is unbeaten (4-0) in four starts.

This will be Feierabend's first career appearance against the Angels.

Pitching matchup
SEA: LHP Ryan Feierabend (2007 debut)
The left-hander joins the Mariners rotation for at least one start, which will be the third of his Major League career. His last appearance came Sept. 29, 2006, when held the Rangers to two earned runs in five innings, walking three and striking out three. He is 0-1 with a 3.71 ERA in his big-league career.

LAA: RHP Ervin Santana (3-6, 6.00 ERA)
A 16-game winner for the Angels last season, Santana is making his second appearance of 2007 against the Mariners, hoping to duplicate his seven-inning outing in April, when he held Seattle to one run. He was 1-0 with a 4.80 ERA in two starts against the Mariners in 2006.

Players to watch
Left fielder Raul Ibanez not only has a .359 career average at Angel Stadium, but he is 6-for-11 in his career against Santana and he has hit for the cycle against the Angels right-hander -- three singles, a double, a triple and a home run.
