An excellent offseason for top Mariners prospect Dustin Ackley continued Monday in Phoenix as the young second baseman was named Player of the Week for the Arizona Fall League and then capped his day with another big outing for the Peoria Javelinas.
Ackley went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the Javelinas' 16-8 win over Phoenix, raising his AFL batting average to .429 with four home runs and 17 runs batted in.
He was named Player of the Week earlier in the day after hitting .556 (10-for-18) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs and eight runs scored in four games last week.
The Mariners' first-round Draft pick in 2009 capped last week with a single and run scored as the starting second baseman in Saturday night's Rising Stars game.
Tom Wilhelmsen, a 26-year-old right-handed reliever for the Javelinas, was one of the nominees for Arizona Fall League Pitcher of the Week honors.
Wilhelmsen, who pitched Class A ball for the Mariners last year after being out of baseball for six seasons, has a 0.96 ERA in 9 1/3 innings. He's given up just three hits and one run in seven appearances.
The Javelinas play eight more Fall League games, finishing up Nov. 18, with a league championship game set for Nov. 20.
